Beautiful and livable spaces for homeowners in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota

Let’s Talk Today!

No matter where you are in life, I meet you there.

“My life is changing. But my home’s style is still living in the past.”

Maybe the kids are older, a room has freed up, or life has simply moved in a new direction – and suddenly your spaces feel dated and stuck. Together, we’ll create a home that feels like who you are today.

“We’re remodeling. But all the decisions are overwhelming us.”

The choices seem endless and the costs are real. It’s easy to feel paralyzed before you even begin. Working together, we’ll bring clarity to the process so you can move forward with confidence.

“I’m moving. But how do I blend old and new furniture?”

The furniture you’ve loved doesn’t have to change just because your address does. Your most treasured pieces can anchor a whole new look – and together, we’ll build something beautiful around what you love.

“Roberta listened to exactly what I wanted and was spot on with her choices. It was so much fun going through this journey with her. I absolutely love my living and dining room — so much so that I’m having her help me redecorate my bedroom!”

JANENE, CHANHASSEN

It all starts with a conversation.

Each service begins with an in-home consultation - where we talk through your goals, look at your space together, and determine the best path forward.

Interior design

Consultation: Up to two hours – $300

Before I arrive at your home, you’ll receive a style questionnaire that helps me understand your goals, style preferences, timeline, budget, and how you live.

When we meet, we walk through your spaces together, talk through possible solutions, and discuss how to make it all happen — whether that’s a simple refresh or a fuller project with floor plans, design boards, or shopping support.

Following our consultation you’ll receive a written summary and a proposal for any add-on services.

INTERIOR AND
EXTERIOR COLOR

Consultation: Up to two hours – $300

Color is more nuanced than most people realize. For interiors, we start with your immovable objects — trim and doors, cabinets, countertops, backsplashes, flooring, existing wall colors, and more — and work from there. Considering undertones, flow, and cohesion from room to room, we’ll narrow it down to a few options.

Large paint samples arrive at your door after our visit so you can live with them in your own light.

Exterior color consultations are also
available.

HOME STAGING

Consultation: Up to one hour – $300

We start with a walk-through of your home together, followed by time on my own to assess and photograph each room. The result is a detailed, customized written plan — room by room, practical and specific built around what you already have.

Follow the plan and you can stage your own home with confidence, without hiring a full stager. It’s one of the most cost-effective investments you can make before listing.

Hello. I'm Roberta Peters.

I grew up on a dairy farm in rural Wisconsin - so when I say Birch Hill Interiors is rooted in real life, I mean it, literally. The name itself comes from a walk with my dad to a birch knoll in the woods across from our farm. My down-to-earth approach is how I meet every homeowner, wherever life has brought them.

I’ve spent 30+ years in graphic design, but I’ve always loved the way interior design shapes how we feel in a space. When I launched Birch Hill Interiors in 2018 it was a natural transition from 2D graphic design to 3D interior design - it felt like coming home.

I have a psychology minor and genuinely love learning about how people live. This background helps me ask the right questions - and then actively listen to their answers. Whatever you’re hoping for, whatever is holding you back - I want to hear it. It’s all about you.

Questions People Ask Me

A few things homeowners often want to know before reaching out.

I work with Twin Cities homeowners who are ready for a change — one room or several, a simple refresh or a full redesign. Whatever your design goals, I meet you wherever you are.

Interior design isn't about the designer's personal style - it's about yours. I'm here to understand how you live, and create a space that reflects what's beautiful, meaningful, and functional to you.

My philosophy is to invest in timeless, quality-made foundational pieces — a sofa, a dining table, key furniture that will last — and save any trend-driven choices for inexpensive, easily replaceable items like throw pillows and décor. That approach protects your budget and ensures your home feels current for years, not just for a season.

Absolutely - and it's often the best place to start. Maybe you have a piece you just bought, a comfortable sofa you're not ready to part with, or a family heirloom that means too much to leave behind. Your existing pieces tell me a lot about your style, your life, and what matters to you. My job is to honor what you already love and build something beautiful around it.

Every project starts with a conversation and ends with a space you love. Visit my Services page for a full walkthrough of how we work together.

It starts before I ever walk through your door. After our initial phone call, where we talk through your goals and decide if a consultation is the right next step, I send you a detailed style questionnaire to complete at your convenience.

From your style preferences and lifestyle to your budget, timeline and inspiration photos, the questionnaire covers the full picture before we ever meet. I review it before I arrive and we go through it together at our consultation. I schedule regular check-ins throughout the project to make sure we stay aligned every step of the way.

Friendly, regular and thorough. Phone calls, texts and emails are all welcome. I document major decisions and changes in your project proposal so nothing gets lost and we're always on the same page.

With total transparency — always. My fee is communicated clearly upfront with exactly what you'll receive. For sourcing, I introduce you to my trusted design representatives who work with you directly to place orders and arrange delivery. You pay them — there's no markup on my end. When possible, I pass along my trade discount to you.

Any changes along the way are documented in your project proposal, which I update throughout our work together, so you always know exactly where things stand.

I have direct relationships with contractors, as well as access to trusted referrals through my trade associations and local wholesalers. If your project requires contractor work, I'll connect you with the right people for the job.

Honestly, it depends on you. Once I deliver my recommendations, the timeline is largely in your hands. Some clients move quickly and decisively. Others need time to think things through, get approvals, or wait for the right moment financially. Both are completely fine. I work at your pace.

That's what the collaborative process is for. If something doesn't feel right, we'll talk through what's working and what isn't — your feedback shapes every decision. For floor plans and design boards one revision is included in the fee. After that, additional revisions are billed at my hourly rate. In my experience though, when clients complete the style questionnaire thoroughly and we have a good conversation at the consultation, we're usually well aligned from the start.

I'm happy to share relevant experiences from past projects that might be similar to yours, just ask during our initial phone call. You can also visit my Gallery page to see a selection of recent projects from Twin Cities homes and my Testimonials page for a wide range of client experiences.

Rooted in community.

Last winter, I joined 14 fellow St. Paul Area Association of Realtors (SPAAR) members at Open Arms of Minnesota in St. Paul, a nonprofit that prepares and delivers medically tailored meals to Twin Cities residents living with life-threatening illness. The event was organized by the SPAAR Community Engagement Committee, of which I’ve been a member for three years.

We spent the afternoon packaging meals designed by registered dietitians for people who can’t easily cook or leave their homes. It was a good afternoon’s work — and a good reminder of what’s possible when a group of people simply shows up.

Every event brings new faces, new conversations, and new ways to connect.
